Best Festival In Europe Ready To Rock Budapest Again

More than 1,000 performances and activities are lined up for visitors to the annual Sziget Festival on Óbuda Island in 2015, chief organiser Károly Gerendai told us recently. Interest continues to grow in the festival after a new attendance record was set last year with more than 400,000 visitors. This year’s event will run from August 11-17, with a concert by Robbie Williams on August 10, the night before opening day.
The festival’s budget continues to grow, reaching Ft 4.4 billion this year.
Gerendai said the Sziget was voted Best Festival in Europe for the second time last year.
He stressed that three times as many tourists arrive in Budapest for the festival than for the Formula One race, as nearly 90% of the weekly passes are sold outside Hungary.
