Hungarian Welfare Workers Demonstrate Against Low Wages
A demonstration by social and welfare workers demanding higher wages was held in Budapest on Friday. The protesters marched from Kodály Körönd on Andrássy Boulevard to Parliament in the evening. Addressing the demonstrators, Andrea Varga, the head of the Autonóm trade union, said all 93,000 workers in the social sector were fighting poverty and had difficulties in day-to-day subsistence.

She said the government has failed to hear them out on wage demands despite several street demonstrations in the past.

“The dialogue ends here,” she said, urging participants to “pull together”.
