Jewish Cultural Festival In Budapest To Offer Music, Theatre From Late August
The annual Jewish Cultural Festival will offer a wide selection of music and theatre in Budapest, Pécs and Szombathely between August 30 and September 6 this year. The organisers said that the 18th Jewish Cultural Festival will present klezmer, classical music, folk, jazz, rock and blues concerts as well as independent theatre performances.

András Heisler, head of the Federation of Jewish Communities in Hungary (Mazsihisz), said the weeklong festival will be held contrary to press reports that stated the opposite, and its aim will remain a discussion about co-existence, common history and culture as well as European values. Artistic director of the festival József Böjte highlighted the inclusion of theatre in this year’s festival programme.

The venue where plays will be shown, Goldmark Hall, was the only place in Budapest during the Holocaust where Jewish performers were allowed to entertain Jewish people, he added. The opening concert will be by the Budapest Klezmer Band which will present its 25th anniversary show at the Dohány Street Synagogue.
