NATO will deploy an E3A AWACS (Airborne Warning and Control System) aircraft in Hungary to participate in a military exercise in mid-September, daily Napi Gazdaság said. The exercise will provide training for air rescue operations. The AWACS aircraft designed to carry out airborne surveillance will support the operation of NATO units planned to be involved in the resolution of the Ukraine-Russia conflict, the paper said.
NATO will also deploy another 22 aircraft for the exercise at the Pápa military airbase in north-western Hungary.
These will likely include medical evacuation MEDEVAC helicopters.
The exercise, code named Combined Joint Personnel Recovery Standardisation Course - CJPRSC 2015, will also involve 400 military officers from 12 countries.
