Xploring Hungary Video: Skanzen 'Hungarian Open Air Museum' Near Szentendre
This special Hungarian museum is located in the Duna-Ipoly National Park. Besides the exhibitions showing "Carpathian folk architecture and life in various areas of Hungary", the vast park provides an excellent venue for relaxation and recreation.

The 'Hungarian Open Air Museum', or Skanzen for short, is Hungary’s largest outdoor collection, founded in 1967.

In total it covers 60 hectares with 312 different buildings arranged in 8 regional units, as follows:

  • North Hungarian Village
  • Upland Market Town
  • Upper-Tisza
  • Great Plains
  • Southern Transdanubia
  • Bakony, Balaton Uplands
  • Western Transdanubia
  • Kisalföld
     

A 'Skanzen Train' goes from the Entrance building to the Study Collection, and back. It runs every hour on a 2.2 km road and has five stops from which all the regional units are easy to reach. You can buy your ticket online and avoid the queue - click here for current ticket prices.

    Motorists staged a warning demonstration near Budakalász, on the outskirts of Budapest, demanding that the government speed up the planning of the extension of the M0 motorway’s northern section. Participants at the demonstration organised by the 2011 Association of Environmental and Value Protection blocked the exits on the motorway towards Budakalász and Szentendre with more than 20 cars between 3pm and 5pm.
