Watch: Traditional Hungarian Celebrations at Szentendre Pentecost Festival, 24 - 25 May
Craft demonstrations, folk dance and traditional music performances take place at the Szentendre Open-Air Ethnographic Museum (Skanzen) during the Pentecost Heritage Festival.

Traditional heritage groups, performers and artisans from across Hungary present their cultural practices while involving visitors directly in the activities. Spanish artists add flamenco dance, Córdoba-style floral courtyard decoration and Mediterranean culinary traditions as a special feature.

The programme includes interactive workshops, craft demonstrations, concerts, folk music and dance performances. The Kalocsa Heritage Association covers traditional customs, with additional events featuring the "kádár" dance from Erdőbénye and a puppet theatre show.

In the South Transdanubia unit, the Rajkó Orchestra, Zselic Dance Ensemble, Matyó Folk Dance Ensemble and ProLet Bulgarian Folk Dance Group perform. The Great Hungarian Plain Market Town unit hosts ethnographer Imre Harangozó's lecture on "Pentecost Traditions in Békés County."

A photo exhibition marks the 50th anniversary of Hungary's dance house movement. Master craftsman János Sárdi demonstrates Hungarian indigo dyeing traditions.

The West Transdanubia unit offers pottery workshops, a jug exhibition, traditional wafer-making and a presentation of Solymár's Swabian folk costume. The Little Hungarian Plain unit covers Whitsun church decoration traditions from Mende and Serbian gold embroidery from Deszk.

Marking the 20th anniversary of Hungary's accession to the Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage, the festival highlights cultural diversity, shared community experiences and traditions linking generations and cultures.

Pentecost is a major public holiday, observed on Sunday 24 May 24 and Monday 25 May in Hungary this year. Known as Pünkösd in Hungarian and historically referred to as Whitsun in English, this Christian celebration provides a three-day weekend that is popular for excursions, cultural exploration, and experiencing rural traditions.
