HUF 60bn Billion For Budapest HÉV Upgrade
A proposal has been drawn up for upgrading the HÉV suburban rail carriages at a cost of Ft 60 billion, mayor István Tarlós announced on Friday. The upgrade of about 300 carriages could be carried out by the city’s own company, therefore no public procurement tender would be needed. The complete overhaul of the inside of the carriages would cost Ft 30 billion and the renewal of the infrastructure, tracks and safety equipment another Ft 30 billion.

On another matter, Tarlós said a tram line between Keleti train station and Újpalota in the 15th District could be completed by 2019, stressing that this would be Ft 100 billion cheaper than if the fourth metro line were extended towards the 15th District.
