Hungary will be the guest of honour at this year’s International Book Fair organised in Taipei on Feb. 16-21, the foreign ministry’s state secretary said. The fair is the second largest literary event in Asia and the fourth largest such event in the world that last year featured 700 publishing houses from 70 countries, István Íjgyártó said.
There will be ten Hungarian publishing houses presenting classic and contemporary works at the fair, Judit Hammerstein, the director general of the Balassi Institute, said.
Three Hungarian writers, Péter Gárdos, György Dragomán and Zsófia Mautner will present their own works to visitors.
The Hungarian stand will also present programmes promoting Budapest, major tourist hot-spot Lake Balaton, Hungarian gastronomy, folk music and folk art.
Programmes include a lecture by historian János Hóvári about 18th century Hungarian explorer Móric Benyovszky who visited Taiwan in 1771.
