MNB Releases New Book On Policy

The ultimate goal would be to catch up with Austria, Matolcsy underlined.
Central bank CEO Barnabás Virág, one of the editors of the book, said Hungary is enjoying a rare moment in its economic history, when stability and growth are both present.
This opens up long-term perspectives for planning, such as putting an end to the decline in population, he added.
The MNB argues that the role of private capital in education and health care should be increased, and that people should be allowed to work after reaching the pension age.
The book’s co-editor Dániel Palotai said the MNB would like to see a banking system that is competitive and supports growth in which banks make 10-12% profit.
