Govt To Introduce Chancellor System In Health Care By Year’s End

The government plans to introduce a so-called chancellor system in the public health-care sector by the end of the year with a view to improving state oversight of health institutions’ finances, a government official said. Under the system, the government will appoint chancellors to oversee the finances of health-care institutions, János Mészáros, deputy state secretary for health care, said.
The scheme is aimed at improving the transparency of institutions’ finances.
The chancellors will also be tasked with finding new ways for health institutions to cooperate and improve their spending efficiency.
With the uniform IT and accounting systems that were put in place in health institutions in recent years, the state health provision centre ÁEEK will be able to compare the institutions’ financial performance and keep them upto- date on their financial situation, Mészáros said.
Daily Magyar Idők recently said that a report by the State Audit Office revealed serious misconduct of financial affairs and around public procurement in Hungary’s healthcare sector over the past years.
