Gyurcsány : I Am Quitting The Business World
The former Prime Minister and current head of the Democratic Coalition party (common Hungarian abbreviation DK) Ferenc Gyurcsány is going to extricate himself from his business interests in about a year to completely focus on politics going forward.

The former PM talked about his plans to daily newspaper Bors. Prior to becoming PM of Hungary in 2004 Mr. Gyurcsány had built a business empire. He has been attacked for his personal wealth by his political opponents for over twelve years now. Recently, a subsidiary of Mr. Gyurcsány's Altus Group, Altus ConsAlt Ltd. (which is led by Mr. Gyurcsány's wife Klára Dobrev) was attacked by the Hungarian government.

The consulting company won a 100 million HUF contract from the European Commission. Fidesz and PM Viktor Orbán attacked Brussels for "supporting" Gyurcsány's DK party "under cover" of this contract. Altus took PM Orbán to court in connection with his statements and the company won at the court of first instance.

Mr. Gyurcsány told Bors that Altus was reorganized into two entities in 2015 and that the international consulting company is totally independent, owned by Gyurcsány's wife and the employees.

The other part of the group, Altus Portfólió Ltd., deals with the industrial businesses and is owned by Mr. Gyurcsány. One of the companies of Altus Portfólió, Béta-Roll Ltd. was sold to a German investor in January 2016. The largest part of the group, Motim Ltd., which is active in the aluminum industry, is planned to be sold in about a year.

According to the former PM everything that remains from Altus after taxation is going to become his private means. The asset statement which he is obliged to make as Member of Hungarian Parliament is going to reflect these activities in the upcoming year.
