Budapest Mayor Tarlós Outlines Congestion Zone
Budapest mayor István Tarlós on Friday presented detailed plans of the congestion fee system for the city at his final weekly press conference before the summer break. Car drivers will have to pay Ft 700 to enter the central zone, or can buy a yearly pass for Ft 5,000 per year.

In Pest, the zone will be delineated by Szt. István körút, Bajcsy-Zsilinszky út, Károly körút, Múzeum körút and Vámház utca leading to the Szabadság Bridge.

On the Buda side, the borders will extend from Margaret Bridge along the Bem rakpart to Csalogány utca, Széll Kálmán tér, Attila út, Alagút utca and Lánchíd utca to the Erzsébet Bridge.

The congestion fee is an obligation undertaken by the city in 2006 in exchange for EU funding for the fourth metro line.

The 2010-14 government issued a decree against the introduction of such a system.

Confirming his reluctance to back the plan, Tarlós said the city will not initiate a repeal of this decree.
