Violinist, pianist, accordionist and composer Yann Tiersen is one of today's most popular French musicians. World fame came with his music for the film Amélie. His finely woven, understated, sensitive and emotional music resists easy genre classification.
Chopin and Satie are as much inspirations as contemporary electronic dance music. "There is no clear division between classical and popular music, you are free to work in either field. For me, it is natural to use diverse instruments, textures, sounds, and noises - diversity is natural for me, because that's what life is like,” he said in an interview.
