Population Decline Slows In Jan-Sept

Hungary’s population decline slowed in the first nine months of the year compared with the same period in 2015, as the number of births dropped slightly and the number of deaths decreased significantly, the Central Statistical Office reported.
The data show there were 68,802 births in January-September, a 0.2% drop from the same period a year earlier. The number of deaths was 92,437, down 7.6% compared with 2015.
This equals to a 24% easing in the rate of natural population decline compared with the same period in 2015. The number of marriages went up by an annual 10% to 42,459.
