Swim Chief Gyárfás Resigns

Olympic and world champion Dániel Gyurta wrote “Deep breath. Clean slate.”
In a statement, Gyárfás said “I hereby resign, as I feel that this is how I can help in the best possible way”.
Hosszú, the most successful Hungarian swimmer of the present day, was the first to call on Gyárfás to resign last December, saying the federation did not provide adequate support to the national swimming team.
Hosszú trained outside of Hungary this year before winning all three of Hungary’s swimming gold medals at the summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro.
After she again called on him to step down on November 15, Gyárfás told reporters that he did not intend to resign but would work to see that problems were solved.
László Cseh, winner of a silver medal at the Rio Olympics, said the problems of Hungarian swimming will not be solved by Gyárfás’s departure alone, as much work remains to be done.
Gyárfás did not give up his posts as vice-president of the International Swimming Federation and co-president of the 2017 Budapest world aquatics federation.
Gyárfás left with the Hungarian swimming team for the short-course world championships that start in Canada next week.
