Momentum’s Rise Has Not Dented Fidesz Support Level
The recent rise of the Momentum Movement has not had any impact on the ruling Fidesz party’s level of support, according to a February poll by the Nézőpont Institute.

Momentum came to the fore as a result of its campaign to collect signatures for a referendum on Budapest’s bid to host the 2024 Olympics.

The government and Budapest leadership decided to drop the bid after Momentum collected over 260,000 signatures.

Taking the voting population as a whole, Fidesz registered support of 33% of respondents, while the radical nationalist Jobbik party had the backing of 12%.

The Socialists had 8%, the Democratic Coalition (DK) 4%, LMP 3% and the other small parties were below 2%.

Nézőpont, based on its survey, said “the most likely result” would have Fidesz with 46% as against 21% for Jobbik, 14% for the Socialists, 7% for DK and 4% for LMP. The smaller parties would receive 2% or below, according to the pollster.

Nézőpont said that during the course of its survey it did not register any measurable support for Momentum. The survey was conducted between February 3 and 20 with 2,000 respondents.
