Education To Get More Money, Teachers More Freedom
Next year the government will plough an extra 97 billion forints (EUR 315m) into the country’s education system compared with the current year, an education official said.

Parliamentary state secretary of the ministry of human resources Bence Rétvári said that every year more and more money is reaching the education system and new resources are available for developments.

He added that textbooks would be available free of charge from September for children in the first nine grades. Until now free textbooks were available for the first four grades.

The official responsible for preparing Hungary’s new national core curriculum, Valéria Csépe, said that teachers would be given more professional freedom when it comes to determining what competencies should be available.

The new concept will not be based on the current, over- regulated and “not necessarily up-to- date” one, but started afresh, she said.
