Hundreds Stranded In Turkey
Insurance company Uniqa has begun compensating clients of travel agency Green Holidays, which declared itself bankrupt on Sunday night, regional director András Vereczki said on Monday.

Some 1,000 Hungarian tourists are stranded abroad as a result, almost all of them in Turkey.

More than a hundred Hungarian tourists who took off from Budapest to Turkish holiday destination Antalya on Sunday morning on a Green Holidays charter flight were informed at the hotels that their room expenses were not covered.

The Hungarian embassy helped 180 stranded tourists to find accommodation.

The agency had a Ft 500 million compulsory deposit with insurance association Mabisz, but it is not known whether this will be enough to compensate clients, Mabisz officials said.

The first phase of the compensation process is bringing back tourists from Turkey, said Uniqa. Tourists were urged to contact the insurance company.

Stranded tourists told state news agency MTI that they received no information from the travel agency.
