IATA To Finally Pay Victims Of Malév Hungarian Airline Collapse

An Amsterdam court has ruled that international air traffic authority IATA will compensate those who were left with unused Malév tickets when the airline collapsed in 2012, paying 72% of the value of such tickets.
The IATA has withheld a total of $11.4 million for this purpose.
The repayments will take place via travel agencies. Those who booked their tickets without using a travel agency will probably receive no money back, Napi speculates.
The European travel agents association Ectaa sued IATA in 2015 in the name of 184 travel agencies.
Russia’s Vneshekonombank, a Malév creditor, would also like a share of the money but the Amsterdam court rejected its claim, thereby releasing the money for repayment to customers.
