The square was named after Kálmán Mikszáth, writer, publisher, and politician, whose statue is in the corner of the square.

He lived in the 19th century, studied law, but never graduated, once he got involved in writing. His novels, filled with humor and criticism, were well received and widely translated.

Rumor has it that Theodore Roosevelt enjoyed his novel, St. Peter’s Umbrella, so much that he visited Mikszáth during his European trip in 1910 only to express his admiration.

Getting to Mikszáth Square: Take Subway (M3) to Kálvin tér or Streetcars 4 or 6 to Baross utca and take the short walk over to Mikszáth tér.
