Xploring Budapest: Mikszáth Square
This lovely square in district 8, just off of Baross utca, has outdoor venues that are reminiscent to Liszt Ferenc Square, but smaller, more laid-back, and ideal for coffee, drinks or even dinner.

The square was named after Kálmán Mikszáth, writer, publisher, and politician, whose statue is in the corner of the square.

He lived in the 19th century, studied law, but never graduated, once he got involved in writing. His novels, filled with humor and criticism, were well received and widely translated.

Rumor has it that Theodore Roosevelt enjoyed his novel, St. Peter’s Umbrella, so much that he visited Mikszáth during his European trip in 1910 only to express his admiration.

Insider Tip: A popular restaurant/café here is Café Frank Zappa, located at Mikszáth tér 2.

Getting to Mikszáth Square: Take Subway (M3) to Kálvin tér or Streetcars 4 or 6 to Baross utca and take the short walk over to Mikszáth tér.
