György Gondár, who heads the Magyar Rotary District, said communities in the region, in which three countries share borders, have a history of cooperation going back 18 years, and the new agreement allows the expansion of existing programmes.
Rotary clubs there have organised a joint one-week camp for underprivileged children in the Southern Great Plains region for almost two decades, and this initiative will be further developed in future, he added.
The Rotary student exchange programme, among others, will also be expanded, Gondár said. Vladimir Matic, who heads the Serbian-Montenegrin Rotary District, said the Rotary Club of Subotica (Szabadka) had recently spent 70,000 US dollars on the purchase of hearing aids for children with disabilities, citing an example of the club’s charitable work.
Cristian Jurji, who heads the Romanian-Moldavian Rotary District, said one of the goals of the cooperation between the clubs is to involve more young people in Rotary.
