Liberty Bridge 'Closed For Picnics' At Weekends In July
Every weekend from midnight on the Friday until Sunday at midnight in July, this key Budapest bridge will be closed for traffic to let pedestrians picnic there if they wish.

As in previous years there will be local bands playing there above the Danube, plus flamenco and swing dancers, zumba, salsa and yoga on 'Szabadság Híd'.

The goal is to change the bridge into a public space so, by the rules of public spaces, you can organize any program you want to there, such as picnics, say the organisers.

The City and River Association is working on the 'appreciation of the bank of Danube'. They complain that, "The river - which is the biggest, most characteristic natural treasure of the city - is bordered by roads and it is almost impossible to access."

We all hope this initiative helps more and more people to enjoy the beauty of the Danube!

Dates & times:
July: 6-7, 13-14, 20-21, 27-28.
From Friday midnight until Sunday midnight.

It’s a sightseeing tour for free – or rather, for the cost of less than €1 for a ticket on Budapest public transport. Of the city’s tram routes from 1 to 69, some glide alongside the Danube, others ascend the verdant slopes of Buda or past foothills once covered in vineyards.
