The police have launched a criminal investigation in connection with a recent fire in an apartment in Budapest's fifth district, in which a Japanese women is believed to have been murdered, the Budapest police (BRFK) said on Tuesday.
The government maintains zero tolerance of all forms of violence against women, the government spokesperson said on Tuesday, adding that a review of shortcomings in a recent case ordered by the national police chief had the full support of the government.
Domestic violence is not a private matter but a serious social problem that affects everyone, the mayor of Budapest said on Thursday. "It concerns us all, not only politicians," he said.
The opposition Socialists have proposed the government should set up a fund for the prevention of violence against women and to include the fight against domestic violence as a subject in the national curriculum, the party's parliamentary deputy group leader said on Monday, marking International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women.
