On March 15, 1848 - as part of the European revolutionary wave - a revolution broke out in Pest-Buda, and it triumphed without bloodshed with the slogans of national sovereignty and civil transformation ("equality, freedom, brotherhood"). Modern parliamentary Hungary was born, and the process leading to the War of Independence began, aiming to abolish Habsburg rule and achieve independence and constitutional establishment.
The Busó festivities in Mohács, in south-western Hungary, a six-day carnival to mark the end of winter, drew tens of thousands of visitors this year, the Hungarian Tourism Agency said.

Busójárás festival in Mohács stands out as one of the most significant and widely recognised traditions here, earning it a coveted spot on the UNESCO World Heritage List. This year more than seventy Busó groups will mark the winter solstice in Hungary, with a record number of 2500 masked individuals celebrating between 8 -13 February.
