As expected, the numbers are higher in the richer, western half of the country, reaching 58% in Vas, Fejér and Pest counties. In the east, the rate is 50-55%.
The National Centre for Public Health (NNK) would not release data on the rate of vaccinations in the country, so eventually 444 received the numbers from the Prime Minister’s Office.
The website adds that it would be interesting to see figures for the district or even municipal level, but neither the NNK nor the PMO would provide more detailed data.
Vaccination rates have slowed in recent weeks, with fewer than 5,000 getting their first shot on average each day.
To date, 57% of the total population has been vaccinated. Hungary was second in Europe in this respect for a long time, but now the Netherlands, Denmark, Belgium and Finland are all above 60%.
PMO leader Gergely Gulyás said the government wants to improve the vaccination rate of the elderly, so GPs will visit unvaccinated patients in person, with medical students assisting them.
According to the European Centre for Epidemiology, 74% of those over 80 years of age have been vaccinated so far. The rates are 85% among 70-79-year-olds and 76% for those 60-69 years of age.
