Watch: Interview re Referendum on 'Anti-LGBT Law' in Hungary after EU Legal Action
Hungary’s gov't spokesman speaks to BBC Newsnight to defend its controversial anti-LGBT law, which will now face a referendum weeks after the EU launched legal action against the country over this law.



The law's officially called the 'Children Protection Act' and has the purpose of safeguarding children's well-being and fighting paedophilia.

However it has been criticised both locally and internationally for being discriminatory against the LGBT community.

    The Hungarian government will not block the start of European Union accession negotiations with Ukraine if Kyiv guarantees the rights of the Hungarian minority, Prime Minister Peter Magyar said in an interview published in the Thursday edition of French daily Le Monde, quoting remarks Magyar made to the newspaper during his visit to Paris the previous day.
