The number of visitors to Budapest spas and open baths was up 32% year-on-year to 773,000 in the summer months, according to CEO Ildikó Szűts Boros of Budapest bath operator BGYH.

Revenues rose 53% year-on-year to Ft 2.4 billion, of which the Széchenyi bath alone took in Ft 570 million. Four other baths reported turnover of more than Ft 200 million.

City-owned BGYH is expanding its portfolio of services to recoup the Ft 21 billion loss suffered during the pandemic closures.

It signed an agreement to provide private healthcare services in partnership with private healthcare provider Doktor 24.

Boros said BGYH faced a labour shortage for much of the summer.
