Applications for 'Hungarian to Orbit' Astronaut Programme Accepted
Applications for the Hunor (Hungarian to Orbit) national astronaut programme can be submitted by January 31 on the website hunor.gov.hu, Foreign Ministry ministerial commissioner for space research and activity Orsolya Ferencz told Inforádió on Sunday.

The cabinet will spend nearly Ft 30 billion on the astronaut programme and would like to send a Hungarian astronaut into space by 2025 at the latest.

Ferencz said conditions for application are mostly consistent with international standards, such as college or university qualifications. Candidates are also required to have technical and scientific professional experience, the capacity to take on psychological burdens, and an advanced level of English. Candidates must be no more than 40 years old.

The selection process is in harmony with the European Space Agency’s astronaut policy.

Several applicants will be selected and will undergo training next year, but only one Hungarian will be sent to space.

Ferencz said it shows the significance of the mission that all Hungarian higher education institutions, research groups and Hungarian companies with significant space industry and research experience are involved.

Organisers aim to develop and manufacture 12 completely Hungarian instruments for the Hungarian astronaut to work with.
