Márki-Zay to Form New Hungarian Party for EU Elections
Hódmezővásárhely mayor Péter Márki-Zay announced in an interview with Index that he will run at the European Parliament elections in 2024 with a new party which is yet to be registered.

He said this future party will want to co-operate more closely with the conservative European People’s Party.

He also said that he will run for re-election to his mayoral post in the local elections to be held simultaneously with the European elections, although his local rival Construction and Investment Minister János Lázár has called him a “political corpse”.

Declaring that “In a single-party dictatorship, resistance rather than parliamentary opposition is required,” he said an opposition roundtable is necessary, at which the entire opposition demands changes to the constitution, the electoral system and media relations, and engages in boycotts and civil disobedience if necessary.
