Germans Blamed by FM for EV Battery Factory Protests in Hungary
Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó asserted on Saturday that German financial interests are behind the protests against plans to build an EV battery factory in Debrecen.

In a video uploaded to his Facebook page, he said the Hungarian left wing is striving to create jobs in, for instance, Germany rather than in Hungary, because the major Chinese battery factories primarily supply German carmakers. A significant portion of German car factories are here in Hungary, Szijjártó said, adding “This obviously does not coincide with German national economic interests.”

Szijjártó added “they are now trying to present the production of batteries for electric cars as some kind of a secret story which will come here and cause great damage”.

Large battery factories are currently operating in Hungary and they not causing any environmental problems at all, he claimed.

Finally, he said anybody who campaigns against the construction of the factory in Debrecen is campaigning against environmental protection and the interests of the national economy.
