Fidesz vice-president Lajos Kósa told Mandiner that the gist of the motion, to be submitted in the form of an individual MP’s proposal, will be that associations, parties or other organisations that want to become a nominating organisation may accept financial or other support only from Hungarian natural persons – not from other countries, nor from Hungarian organisations.
A few months ago, it emerged that the Everybody’s Hungary Movement led by Péter Márki-Zay and other organisations received nearly Ft 4 billion in funding from the US-based Action for Democracy group ahead of last year’s parliamentary elections.
Márki-Zay and the opposition parties said none of this money went to political parties.
Action for Democracy said the money was not sent specifically for the election campaign but for “enlightenment campaigns”, adding that related billboards and advertisements did not have any party logos on them.
Since then, the government has launched a propaganda campaign based on the phrases “left-wing dollars” and “the dollar left”.
