Fewer Foreigners Buying Property in Hungary – Nationalities Info Revealed
Some 2,500 foreign investors from outside the EU and the EEA bought real estate in Hungary last year, accounting for 2% of the 125,000 total transactions, real estate broker Duna House reports.

The number of applications fell by 7% to 2,524, of which only 40 were turned down.

The majority of property purchase applications, 73%, were recorded in the capital city. Pest, Zala and Győr-Moson-Sopron counties were also popular destinations.

Chinese buyers accounted for 31.5% of the transactions in 2022.

The 13th, Seventh and Tenth Districts of Budapest were the most popular areas for foreign investors.

The share of Israeli investors rose by two percentage points to 7.4%, with almost half of their transactions closed in the Sixth District.

Ukrainian nationals were the fourth-largest group of buyers. 

UK buyers accounted for 5% of real estate purchases.
