Homophobia in Hungary: Rainbow-Coloured Park Bench Vandalised
A rainbow-coloured bench unveiled in the Ninth District on Thursday, dedicated by Amnesty International and the Ninth District as a gesture of support for LGBTQ people, was on view for two days before it was repainted by homophobic elements on Friday night.

The bench was repainted in the green and white colours of local football team Ferencváros, whose supporters are associated with the far right.

Evidence indicates that a group called Aryans Greens re-painted the bench.

A site called Fradimob posted a picture of the repainted bench, with the message “This is not the city. This is not Ferencváros. Baranyi and the other libtards need to learn this."

Mayor Krisztina Baranyi remarked “The ultras of Ferencváros scored a huge victory on Tompa utca.”

Amnesty International Magyarország filed a complaint. It wrote on Facebook “We have filed a complaint, and we shall repaint the bench, as it is a symbol showing that there is room for everybody. This shared value we must defend together.”
