Hungary Records Driest & 2nd Hottest Summer in Over 120 Years

Hungary has experienced its driest summer since 1901, while temperatures ranked second-highest in more than a century of records, according to HungaroMet.
The average temperature between June and August was 23.43°C, which was 2.59°C above the 1991–2020 average of 20.84°C. It made this summer the second-hottest on record, behind 2024 when the seasonal average reached 23.58°C.
All three summer months were significantly warmer than average. June was 2.7°C above normal, July 1.3°C higher, while August was 3.7°C above average.
August was not only the hottest August on record but also the hottest individual month recorded in Hungary since the beginning of the 20th century.
Rainfall figures were even more striking. Hungary received just 74.1mm of rain during the summer, equivalent to only 36% of the 1991–2020 average of 203.3mm.
That was almost 30mm below the previous record-low summer rainfall of 101.3mm, recorded in 1952.
Rainfall was 45% below average in June and 74% below average in both July and August. Almost 60% of Hungary experienced record-low rainfall during the summer.
