Prices Rocket at Hungary's Music Festivals
According to the latest research by the Oeconomus Economic Research Foundation as reported on InfoRádió, prices at Budapest’s Sziget Festival have risen significantly.

Now in its 30th year, Sziget is the biggest event of its kind in the region, attracting around half a million music lovers over the course of a week to an island north of Budapest.

This year’s is taking place 10-15 August. A significant number of visitors come from abroad, and many young Hungarians shun the festival to seek cheaper, more accessible events elsewhere – see our recent feature on Top Festivals in Hungary.

“Analysing the data of daily tickets, we found that price increases ranged between 13 and 80% compared to 2022,” said Dóra Erdélyi, a senior analyst at Oeconomus. As prices of remaining tickets increase as the festival approaches, these figures could well rise.

Oeconomus also found significant hikes in food and drink prices – pitchers of beer now cost almost twice as much as it did the previous year.

With so many leaving the hospitality industry during the pandemic, serious labour shortages at food and drink outlets has meant having to pay employees more – as reflected in prices, emphasised Erdélyi.

Editors have never been a band who do what’s expected. When they emerged in the early 2000s, university friends from Birmingham, they were swept into a wave of indie groups with whom they had little in common beyond playing guitars.
