Chain Bridge Reopens with a Free Picnic
On Friday, 4 August, the beautifully renovated Chain Bridge reopens in time to mark Budapest’s 150th anniversary as a united city. To celebrate, from 6pm to midnight, the Chain Bridge Picnic brings together live street music, free snacks and children’s activities. After dark, the lights are turned on and the bridge will regain its former glory.

While a LEGO construction of the Chain Bridge awaits in the Children’s Tent, Hungarian-speaking adults can take a guided tour showing interesting aspects of the recent renovation, even taking a peek inside the bridge master’s office. Two illuminated lion statues will join the newly restored stone ones for the evening.

Tents on either side of the bridge will distribute free ice cream, pretzels and lemonade for as long as supplies last – bring a blanket to make yourself comfortable.
