The number of teachers who resigned during a 45-day period equates to half of those who quit in 2022 and two-thirds of those who resigned in 2021, according to G7.
Moreover, this is a not a complete figure, as this includes only the number of teachers employed in state education, and does not take into account those who left the one-fourth of primary schools that are not state-run but are chiefly run by churches and private entities.
The data also does not cover the more than 30,000 educators who work at some 4,500 kindergartens.
HVG adds that when the government claims that 1,200 teachers – about 1% of the total – resigned because of the status law it is only providing the number who resigned from state schools in September, while there are school districts where 10% of the educators have left.
