“Snow awaits sledging and skiing lovers at Normafa!” – wrote the 12th district on its social networking site. The municipality announced on Facebook that the toboggan run and the ski slope have been completed in Normafa, Anne meadow. Winter sports enthusiasts can now use the tracks, which are lit until 10 p.m.
The toboggan run is free of charge and the cross-country ski run is open at last year’s prices.
Children and residents of the 12th district have to pay HUF 1,000 (EUR 2.63) per day, adults from elsewhere HUF 2,000 (EUR 5.26).
The municipality warns that as the Normafa car park fills up at this time of year, people are asked to use public transport to visit the the popular site.
They say that the district has not been “overwhelmed” by heavy snowfall in the last decade and a half or two decades, but that it was lucky to have snow twice at the end of last year. However, last year was also the occasion when the Municipality of Hegyvidék closed the Normafa area for safety reasons because of sleet.
Normafa has a long tradition of winter sports. The first ski race in the capital – the fourth in the country – was held here on February 28, 1909.
The tracks were also very popular last season. During the winter months, the cross-country skiing track was open for nearly 80 days and the toboggan run for nearly 60.
During this period, tens of thousands of visitors and nearly 100 groups from kindergartens and schools used the slopes.
The Normafa Visitor Center also offers information, brochures, and a mini exhibition.
