Slovakia to End Hungarian Border Checks This Month
Slovakia will not continue checks and controls on the Hungarian border after January 22, Interior Minister Sutaj Estok announced on Slovak television Markíza.

Explaining his decision, he said "currently the situation is calm and stable" regarding illegal immigration, and said controls will be introduced again if illegal immigration increases.

The problem of illegal immigration may increase again in the spring, and the government wants to give the police and soldiers who protect the borders time to rest until then.

Slovakia introduced controls on its border with Hungary on October 5, one day after the Czech Republic, Austria and Poland introduced similar measures along their borders with Slovakia.
