Money Warning: Sharp Rise in Fake Banknotes Found in Hungary
The number of counterfeit euro banknotes found in Hungary rose sharply last year, Világgazdaság reports.

MNB agents identified a total of 2,362 fake banknotes in the first three quarters of 2023, of which 2,270 were euro notes, a big jump from 480 in the same period of 2022.

The MNB identified 363 fake forint banknotes in the first nine months of 2023 compared to 518 for the full year in 2022

In international comparison, this is considered a low figure.

The majority of these were forged Ft 10,000 and Ft 20,000 notes.

Most of the fake notes were made by colour photocopiers and printers, the MNB said.
