This sixth edition features major orchestral performances alongside electronic music, experimental dance, literary events and contemporary interpretations of Liszt’s work.

Among the international highlights is the return of The Cleveland Orchestra on 13 October, more than 20 years after its previous appearance in Budapest. Led by Franz Welser-Möst, the programme includes works by Martinů, Brahms and Liszt.

The NDR Elbphilharmonie Orchestra arrives on 21 October under conductor Alan Gilbert, performing Liszt and Ravel alongside Brahms’ Second Piano Concerto with Norwegian pianist Leif Ove Andsnes.

The festival also reaches well beyond traditional classical music. British electronic duo Autechre will perform at the House of Hungarian Music, while the FrenÁk Company presents its new dance production FrenÉsie. 

The Duna Arts Ensemble will premiere Faces of the Roma – Romangi Faca, exploring Roma traditions through music, dance, poetry and visual art.

Another distinctive programme highlight is the performance of Georgian composer and conductor Vakhtang Kakhidze’s Requiem on 17 October. 

This work combines Georgian polyphonic traditions with the structure of a Western classical requiem and features the internationally recognised Rustavi Ensemble.

Liszt's own music remains central to the festival. The closing concert on his birthday, 22 October, will feature his large-scale oratorio Christus at Müpa Budapest, performed by Hungarian, Austrian, Slovak and Swiss soloists together with the National Choir and Pannon Philharmonics.

Other notably highlights include a performance by pianist Balázs Fülei and cimbalom player András Szalai, presenting En Rêve – Liszt Inspirations at the Budapest Music Center, with Liszt’s late piano works rearranged for piano and cimbalom.

Literature also has a significant place in the programme. The Autumn Margó Literary Festival will take place from 15 to 18 October at the National Dance Theatre and Millenáris, bringing international authors including Bernardo Atxaga, Steinunn Sigurðardóttir and Beatriz Serrano together with leading Hungarian writers.

The main festival hub is Müpa Budapest, with additional events at the Liszt Academy of Music, Budapest Music Center and the House of Hungarian Music.
