National Museum to Now Oversee All Major Cultural Institutions in Hungary
The Hungarian National Museum is to undergo a rebranding and expansion, becoming the Hungarian National Museum Public Collections Centre, according to a decree published in the Hungarian Gazette.

Originally proposed as the Ferenc Szechenyi Public Collection Centre, the plan now centralises cultural entities under the National Museum's authority, according to Telex.

Numerous institutions will fall under the National Museum's umbrella, effective July 1, including the Museum of Applied Arts, the Natural History Museum, the Petofi Literary Museum, and others.

Despite previous denials of centralisation, leaked draft documents indicate a broader state-controlled cultural framework, Telex adds.

Neither the Culture and Innovation Ministry nor the institutions concerned responded to Telex's questions.

Only Szilard Demeter, director of the National Museum, replied, saying that, as far as he knew, the government had not yet received any draft.

Culture and Innovation Minister Janos Csak denied when a draft was leaked earlier that centralisation was the goal, but the plan clearly outlines a state cultural pyramid in which even the supply of libraries could be controlled, Telex adds.
