Brussels is “punishing” Hungary because it is protecting its border, Barna Pál Zsigmond, a state secretary of the European Union affairs ministry, said on Facebook.
Tamás Deutsch, the head of ruling' Fidesz's European parliamentary delegation, has called on the European Commission to "take immediate steps to counter Ukraine's blackmail" of Hungary and Slovakia.
Regarding the war in Ukraine, Prime Minister Viktor Orbán said the Western world, led by the United States, was trying to defeat Russia without getting directly involved in the conflict by “leaving it to the Ukrainians to fight the war”, once the Russian president, violating all principles of international law, had tried to prevent Ukraine from joining NATO.
Gergely Gulyás, the head of the Prime Minister’s Office, called the decision of the Court of Justice of the European Union to fine Hungary 200 million euros for not complying with EU legislations on asylum and on returning illegal immigrants to their home countries “outrageous, unfair and unacceptable”.
