Watch: Sven Väth @ Sziget Festival in Budapest, 11 August
The artist who has done so much to influence and shape club culture still likes playing  records to people more than anything else. That’s Sven for you.

At the time of writing we are now over 40 years into the astonishing career of one of the most  charismatic sensual performers ever to gaze out from a Dj booth.

The record bags that contain so many secrets and possibilities are bigger than ever. Vinyl  back then, vinyl now.

The intuition. The communication. You just have to meet the man behind the decks to really  get it. This is Sven’s domain and it is ruled with utter confidence. Records will be wafted in  the air along with wicked smiles - and at every show no one, including Sven, knows quite  what will happen.

Sven’s career is built on a fierce commitment to the people that matter, the dancers in front  of him are the VIP´s. Along the way this relentless explorer of the dancefloor has done so  much more for music, for the industry:

Frankfurt 1981 is where it all it started. Quickly the figurehead for a techno revolution in  Germany that spread far and wide. Worldwide.

Sailing alone as usual. His “Omen" Club was sweaty and compulsive. Eye popping parties  that made for delirium on the dancefloor and long weekends over 10 glorious years. The  music labels “Harthouse”, “Eye Q”, “Recycle or die” became an archive for contemporary  electronic dance music and ambient.

Then Sven upscaled, creating the extraordinary “Cocoon Club” in Frankfurt. Incredible  futuristic design and an earth shattering sound system. For many years a feast for the eyes  and ears. There was nothing like it anywhere.

For his next trick this visionary gave birth to one of the most influential memorable parties of  all time, “Cocoon Ibiza”. This extraordinary residency, in one of the best clubs in the world,  was launched in 1999. Amnesia on a Monday night blew away cobwebs and the  competition.

Season after season with Sven front and center throughout, except when he  was hanging upside down from a balcony. You can identify the very beginnings of a new  after party culture that Sven championed. He was simply unstoppable and as usual was  there first for others to follow.

Along with Cocoon Ibiza Sven created an event agency (Cocoon Events Worldwide – sending the message across 5 continents and now well over 30 countries) as well as a  record label (Cocoon Recordings - with a back catalogue stuffed with quality) that gets ever  more important.

The compilations alone have consistently shone a light on the future and  brilliantly reflected the past. Sven made the label essential.

The „Sound of the Season“  compilation CD`s are the soundtrack to so many peoples summers. Many a career has been  launched on the back of Sven’s selections, one of his favorite jobs when off duty.

In October 2014 there was a happening that expressed so well the Väth impact. It was a 50th  birthday party in stunning surroundings where 10,000 people joined together in Mannheim to  celebrate a monumental life and career. An unforgettable night of dancing and community  that reflected what Sven had always wanted: Let music bring togetherness.

In 2015 another very special moment as Sven was honored by the City of Frankfurt with the  „Goetheplakette“, issued only to those that have made a real contribution to the cultural life of  the city. A formal occasion but one that was important because it acknowledged at a different  level the positivity that dance music can bring. A force for good. A coming together of good  souls.

The tours went on, globally, still challenging his support team to keep up.

Then in 2020 what felt like the blink of an eye it all stopped. The pandemic. No tours, no  performing – no people. What is happening out there? And what does a human dynamo do  during these endless months?

A lot is the answer. For starters Sven was once again voted best DJ by Groove magazine  readers which is a fine way to start celebrating 40 years at the front end of modern music.

Look out in 2022 for MOMEM in Frankfurt, featuring an exhibition even charting this history  and created by the brilliant artist and friend Tobias Rehberger. Do also expect a gorgeous  coffee table book splashed with memories and insights. On top of that another classic Sven  compilation.

This time not signposting the future: „What I Used To Play¨ will be a strictly  limited collectors Vinyl box set.

But most important Sven produced new music: CATHARSIS the first album after 20 years,  it grew out of a longing that was triggered by an impulse deep within his soul.

The first single  „FEIERN“ expressed what we all have been missing during the pandemic. The full album,  produced with Gregor Tresher, is released in February 2022, containing 13 brand new  tracks.

41 years DJing with a finger always on the pulse and an endless desire to share. That sums  it up. A unique artist.

The most mesmerizing DJ of his generation, and yours, is hungrier and more vital than ever.  Utterly professional, utterly unpredictable. No one else like him. Not even close.

The invincible Sven Väth.
