'3 Body Problem' Seasons 2 & 3 to Film Back-to-Back in Budapest
Netflix’s sci-fi epic 3 Body Problem is preparing for an expanded production phase, with seasons two and three set to shoot back-to-back in Budapest. Hungary once again serves as a central location in the high-budget adaptation of Liu Cixin’s acclaimed trilogy.

The story moves into The Dark Forest, where humanity confronts the long-term threat of a Trisolaran invasion.

With the alien sophons monitoring all communications, Earth launches the Wallfacer Project—a covert initiative granting four individuals immense authority to devise strategies hidden from both the enemy and fellow humans. One of them, Luo Ji, a little-known astronomer, becomes an unlikely key figure in the defense of Earth.

Returning to lead the production are David Benioff, D.B. Weiss, and Alexander Woo as writer-producers.

The producer lineup includes Duncan Muggoch, Bernadette Caulfield, Brad Pitt, Rian Johnson, and Rosamund Pike, among others. Filming is being managed by Pioneer Stillking Films and Pioneer Stillking Andrássy Kft., both operating out of Budapest.

Hungary’s continued participation reinforces its growing role as a global production hub, especially for large-scale science fiction and fantasy series.

3 Body Problem joins a growing list of major titles choosing Budapest for its infrastructure, talent pool, and favorable conditions for international production.
