Wine from One of Oldest Viticultural Regions in Hungary Gets PDO Status
Wines from Kőszeg, in the west of Hungary, have been added as a Protected Designation of Origin (PDO) in the European Union's eAmbrosia database, the European Commission said.

"The production area of Koszeg town is one of the oldest wine regions in Hungary, with a long-standing cultural and economic tradition of viticulture," the EC said.

A number of Hungarian wines have PDO status, including ones from Badacsony, Eger, Tokaj and Villany.

Wines that hold Protected Designation of Origin (PDO) status are known for exceptional quality and deep-rooted regional traditions.

Among the most renowned here are wines from Tokaj, famed for its sweet Aszú; Eger, home of the bold Egri Bikavér; Villány, known for full-bodied reds; and Badacsony, where volcanic soil shapes distinctive whites.

These wines represent the diversity and richness of Hungary’s winemaking heritage, and now wines from Kőszeg officially add to this fact.
