Free Concerts: International Festival of Bluegrass in Hungary, 8 - 9 August
- 6 Aug 2025 5:48 PM
According to the organizers' press announcement, the free International Bluegrass and Acoustic Music Festival will feature prominent acoustic music performers, as well as domestic and foreign bluegrass artists.
The press statement reminds us that bluegrass is an acoustic music style that originated in the United States. The genre is named after the plant known as bluegrass, which is also native to Hungary.
The goal of the Hungarian Bluegrass Music Association, which organizes the festival, is to make the genre, which is still little known in our country, better known and loved by the audience.
On Friday, in addition to the Limber Jack band, the Recept Nélkül formation, also a local resident, named after the local blues big gun Balázs Tarnai and previously known as Tarnai Acoustic, the Quart Time Lovers from Fejér County, the Miskolc Bluegrass Band Family, and the Kitchen Grass band, representing Slovak bluegrass, will take the stage.
The audience can see the Pannongrass band, which was recruited from the youth of Abaliget, and to close the evening, the "tasty fingerstyle guitar show" of Tamás Szőke and Gergely Nagy.
On Saturday, the event will feature two long-time returning guests, the Hungarikum Ensemble and the Revival Band. After two years, the local audience will be able to welcome Zoli Vas, and the cheerful, acoustic music of the Önként és Dalolva Társulat will also be present.
Triad of Strings, a group of young high school students from Pécs, will be performing at Abaliget for the first time, while Kentucky Harmony, also from Pécs, will be returning. Similarly, the Poa Pratensis Bluegrass Band will be playing traditional bluegrass, the innovative young band Lowland Hill will be performing on Abaliget's stage for the first time this year, and Lalaith, who debuted with great success last year, will also be returning.
On Sunday, New West Acoustix, who are hugely popular in bluegrass circles, will be the star guest, followed by Nightingale, the Lohonyai-Nagy duo and the M6 Country Band. This year, the capital's Captain Brothers, who are no strangers to the world of blues as well as boogie-woogie, will perform for the first time.
The church service of the Hungarikum ensemble on Sundays has a long history: this year, parish priest Imre Mátyás will celebrate the Holy Mass in the Catholic Church of St. Mary Magdalene of Penitence in Abaliget at 11 am.
