Sziget Budapest: Will Festival Comply with Noise Level Regulations?
- 5 Aug 2025 4:19 PM
This year, the measurements will take place at three locations: Fő tér in District III, Lőwy Izsák Street in District IV, and Marina Part in District XIII.
"We will start the sound check of our existing stages using the usual method, and then we will play them all at once. For now, we have completed the measurements in Óbuda, and everything is in perfect order."
"Last year, there were some problems not here, but in Újpest due to the wind, and it is possible that this year will be similar," explained the main Sziget organizer.
The noise level ceiling prescribed in the relevant regulations is 65 decibels before 11 p.m. and 55 decibels after. Tamás Kádár mentioned that the organizers of Sziget are operating the same system as in previous years, as it is well-designed and works excellently.
Our limiter system means we can intervene remotely in the volume of individual venues. We have three fixed measurement points outside the festival area, in addition to two noise brigades coming and going in the surrounding districts to continuously measure the impact of noise", said Kádár.
He highlighted that the weather is always the biggest issue when it comes to festival noise. Current forecasts indicate that windier, cooler weather is likely for the first few days of the festival, while the second half of the event, from August 9 to 11, Saturday to Monday, is expected to be hot, which could be a problem.
Mainly because those who sleep with the window open due to the extreme heat hear the noise of the Island better.
This year, the noise level measurement will take place one day earlier than usual in previous years, i.e. two days before the start of the festival.
In this regard, Kádár said: the reason for this was that the stages were already ready, so there was one more day to set up the technology.
According to Sziget's main organizer, Mayor László Kiss and his staff, representatives of neighboring municipalities, and the competent expert from the Capital were present at the measurements in Óbuda.
The six-day Sziget festival program in Budapest begins on Wednesday.
