Dramatic 2-2 Draw for Hungary vs Ireland in Football World Cup Qualifier

It was a game of two halves in Hungary's first 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier versus Republic of Ireland in Dublin, Marco Rossi's side scoring twice in the first half without reply, before going down to ten men and seeing that lead wiped out by the hosts in the second period. Rossi wasn't happy with the result, but acknowledged his players had battled hard from start to finish.
"We're not happy with the result; some parts of the match showed different pictures to others. The boys fought from the beginning to the end, we performed well in the first twenty-five minutes and continued well after that = we didn't take risks or leave any space for the opponent. I was satisfied with the first half, because we made good decisions, then we fought throughout the second half; I can’t ask for more from the boys.
We have to look ahead - we have five more matches in the group when one is more difficult than the other, so we have a serious challenge waiting for us against Portugal on Tuesday, but we will try to do our best. We saw how easily Portugal won against Armenia - they represent a different level of quality - but our fans expect us to give it our all in that match too," Marco Rossi stated after the match against Ireland in Dublin.
