Hungary's Sixth Confucius Institute to Open in Győr
Hungary’s sixth Confucius Institute for the promotion of Chinese language and culture will open at the Széchenyi Istvan University of Gyor, in north-western Hungary, giving new momentum to Hungarian-Chinese cooperation, Peter Szijjártó, the minister of foreign affairs and trade, said on Saturday.

The five other Confucius Institutes operating at major universities in Budapest, Debrecen, Miskolc, Pécs and Szeged provide the cultural and educational basis for bilateral strategic partnership, offering a chance to study the Chinese language and learn about Chinese culture, while serving the development of economic cooperation through various courses, Szijjarto said.

The opening of the new institute will put Hungary in fifth place in Europe when it comes to the number of Confucius Institutes, he added.

"The establishment of the Confucius Institute in Győr will give new momentum to the city, its university and the national economy, as well as to Hungarian-Chinese cooperation," he said.

Szijjarto noted that during Chinese President Xi Jinping's last visit to Budapest, Hungary and China had elevated their strategic partnership to the highest level.

Hungary has already benefitted substantially from this partnership, he said, pointing to the outsized Chinese investments the country has attracted.
